On the 28th March 2019, Masingita completed a 31 000m² extension to the existing Masingita Mall, now providing 42 000m² to the town of Giyani. The expansion of the mall was directly driven by the tenants and a demand for new retail offerings. Owing to its location and design, the mall provides a convenient shopping experience to both local Consumers and long-distance commuters. Many residents of the area have previously had to travel to Polokwane (located more than 190km from Giyani) for a larger retail offering, so Masingita Mall receives high levels of inflow from surrounding towns and villages. The design concept for the architectural language of the shopping centre is rooted in nature and the landscape of the surrounding area, as well as the vegetation that existed on the site before development started. Inspiration was drawn from the structure of the trees and the shape of the canopies. The sweeping roof emulates the tree canopies, and is supported by structural "tree" columns.
